Are we making ours kids co dependent instead of independent?
I'm not sure where the idea came from that because my parents struggled or didn't have much - when I have children I'm going to give them the world..
Topic: To what and to who's expense?
I know we want to give our kids the best and to give them opportunities we didn't have but to what expense do we sacrifice. We know parents who give their kids everything they ask for - even if we really can't afford it. We know parents who justify being a workaholic as a mean to shower their kids with things instead of being there for them. We know parents that reward their kids for just doing the bare minimum.
When we are showering/spoiling our kids with all these things are we teaching and showing them to value their gifts? Are we teaching and showing them the value of hard work? Are we pushing our kids to be the best and do their best? Or if it gets hard and you face adversity to run from it and I'll shower you with a treat.
This world doesn't care about your kids. If it did we wouldn't have to put into law no child left behind when really they are left behind. Let me work hard for you so you can have a better life - Its so many issues are kids are dealing with but who's , taking the time to listen, or go find out. I remember everyday was questions about school and what's going on in my world. I was not ALLOWED to bring home nothing lower than a B or it was hell to pay. I had chores, I worked, I watched my siblings, I helped in the community, and I was very active in church. My parents worked, my community, my church, and my family helped to raise me. I didn't get everything I asked for and I didn't even get the car when I deserved it but what it taught me is to work hard and get it myself because this world doesn't owe me anything. I am not co dependent on anyone but GOD.
So if my parents wasn't there I could think outside the box without someone else doing it for me.
